Dr. Benjamin Maixner, PhD, BCBA-D

Dr. Benjamin Maixner is the Clinical Director at Building Block Resolutions (BBR). He earned his master’s and doctorate degrees from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology Los Angeles and became a board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA) in 2013. He believes deeply in the competence of all learners and that the natural science of human behavior is a powerful and necessary tool to assist others in realizing their potential. His love of teaching, learning, and solving real-world problems led him to behavior analysis before he was even aware there was such a science. Benjamin applied this passion to his behavior analytic research focusing on improving rock climbing safety behavior through better training, exploring how to reduce the unproductive investments of time and effort, as well as helping adults with autism pursue careers as artists in the entertainment industry. He wants to make the world a better place and knows the best way to make a difference is to train and supervise others. This is one of the primary reasons he is so excited to join the already capable BBR team.

Outside of behavior analysis, he is an outdoor enthusiast and performer. He graduated from the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and worked as a rock-climbing and backpacking guide in the Southwest. His experience training youth in these high-stakes situations has helped him understand the necessity of quality training and how to remain calm under pressure. Benjamin studied and worked as an actor; even then he wanted to solve problems spending summer in Cuba conducting free-lance research on performance as a tool for social change. His actor training has also given him a lot of insight into social skills training. In 2019, he had the good fortune to combine many of these passions into a TEDx Talk focused on community interventions for the integration of the autism population in the workforce. All this is to say that in addition to more than 15 years of working closely with families, that his diverse background endows him with a unique perspective on behavioral programming. He feels are not simply teaching skills but preparing them for the world. He hopes that his passion and perspective can help advance the mission of BBR.
